How To Get Motivated, When Self-Love Isn’t Easy Or Fun

Hello and welcome back to The Post-It Note!

Today I wanted to talk about something that isn’t talked about so much. I want to discuss what it looks like to get yourself motivated to practice the kind of self-love that isn’t easy or fun.

I’ve gone over 50 Easy Ways That You Can Practice Self-Love in a previous blog, and each one of those ways that I mentioned was fun and pretty simple to do; but what if one of the ways to practice self-love and care was not so fun and definitely not super easy? How can we push through the “I don’t want to” to get to the “yes I can”?

I want to share a video of a motivational speaker from my favorite Ted Talk, her name is Mel Robins and I was so inspired by her message that I wanted to make a big change in my life to better myself, but the change that I wanted to make sucked and wasn’t easy for me to do, and honestly, I’m still struggling to achieve it. Keep reading to see her message below.

Making positive changes to your lifestyle that re-direct your activity to encourage you to be better and more productive in the long term is freaking hard to do, which is why a lot of people struggle to do the work. There is a lot of planning and well-minded intentions, but when it comes to the act, people tend to freeze up. I can’t speak on everyone’s reasons for not taking the first step and sticking to it, but for me, the answer is very simple and honestly kind of silly when written down or spoken aloud, I don’t like to be uncomfortable.

In the video below, Mel Robins talks about getting up earlier to start your day off in the right way. Sounds easy right, and maybe it is, but when it’s 32 degrees outside and you are just waking up to prepare to go to a job you can’t stand, your bed is nearly IMPOSSIBLE to get out of.

Waking up earlier for me would mean that I would have more time in the day to be more productive. I would have time to exercise and meditate, I could make a nice breakfast and most importantly, it wouldn’t be a mad dash to get to work in a panic for fear that I’ll be late… again.

I’ve started this mission impossible by setting my alarm clock at least 30 minutes earlier than what I’m used to which turned into this dreaded existence:

The goal is to actually start waking up at the first alarm consistently, I’m a complete work in progress, but I will do it. And little by little it will get easier.

Check out her motivating message below and let me know if you feel inspired to make a positive change in your life!
