30 Things I Learned About Myself This Year

This year is coming to a close and not only do I feel like so much has happened to me, but I also feel like I have changed so much! In honor of the new year, I’m taking this time to challenge myself to recognize 30 things that I’ve learned or am learning about myself this year. So, let’s get right into it.

  1. I am strong, so freaking strong and capable of being flexible through anything that life has thrown my way!
  2. My support system is super legit! Between my amazing parents, my boyfriend and the friends that I have in my life, both old and new, I know I can face any and every obstacle. These people also aren’t afraid to check me if I go slightly off the reservation.
  3. I care so deeply for other people. I really do, I want everyone to be happy and if I have the power to make that happen I’ll do it. I also realized that because I love so much, I can find myself giving to others at the expense of myself.
  4. I’ve realized that I’m not cut out for working for someone else, I have an entrepreneurial mindset and it’s time I stop fighting against it to fulfill someone else’s dreams and put that energy into some of my own.
  5. I am a really good friend. I always make it a point to call and check in with the people I love especially when we don’t live close to one another.
  6. I’m a bomb-ass creative cook! I mean what are recipes really?
  7. I’m very prideful however I am the first to own when I’m wrong.
  8. My debt and financial status do not make me a failure. I just need to learn a bit more about financial health so I can make better and smarter money moves.
  9. I have a beautiful singing voice and I love to hold private concerts in my car during my morning and evening commutes to work.
  10. I am a perfectionist and a control freak, especially when it comes to cleaning. I keep a toothbrush at the sink to clean the tiny corners of things that a regular brush or sponge can’t get to.
  11. I am also a germaphobe, I’ve always hated my hands being wet with unintentional liquids and substances, ESPECIALLY when I cook so now I cook with disposable cooking gloves.
  12. My ultimate goal is to support and help others. I’m not exactly clear as to how I’m going to do that, but I know that is what I am passionate about!
  13. I’m learning to put more energy into experiences instead of possessions.
  14. Most times I love doing nothing. My apartment is my sanctuary and I’m good with that.
  15. I hate bras. I mean, I really loathe them.
  16. I’m afraid to fail, this is something that I’m actively working on getting over.
  17. I’m not a fan of social media, specifically Facebook and Instagram.
  18. I’ve binge-watched Supernatural more times this year than either myself or my boyfriend is comfortable talking about. I just really love Dean Winchester!
  19. I am not as much of a gamer as I thought I was, but I still love watching my boyfriend play them.
  20. I am a huge procrastinator. So much so that I am procrastinating on getting over my procrastination.
  21. Consistency is a struggle for me. See item 20.
  22. I am a dreamer completely. I rely solely on the left side of my brain which makes it hard for me to focus on one thing.
  23. For a long time, I’ve never really seriously thought I was pretty until this year. I’m not sure what it is about 30 but this was my “love Jasmine completely year” and it freaking rocks!
  24. I’ve noticed that I’m more likely to acknowledge and greet people’s animals before the person. Sometimes I don’t say hello to the person at all.
  25. I like the idea of holiday decorations, but not the actual decorating part.
  26. I am really terrible at building and maintaining a fire with real wood in the fireplace.
  27. I am a horrible baker. I think it’s because I am too impatient and I never use measurements when I cook.
  28. Although I love to cook, I get really tired so food tends to go bad in my fridge pretty often. I’m actually really ashamed at how much food I waste.
  29. I just realized how much I hate talking politics. I think it’s depressing.
  30. I really love to make people laugh.

This challenge was much more difficult than I had originally thought it would be but I did have a lot of fun getting real and personal with myself.

What are some of this year’s personal takeaways that you’ve learned?
